He was born April 2, 1903 in Eidson, Tennessee. He left home to work in Rogersville, Tennessee at 15. He contracted measles and returned to his parents to recover. Unfortunately, his mother fell ill of the same disease and died. He married December 31, 1931. During the Depression years he moved to Detroit, Michigan and shortly sent for his family. As times got worse, they moved back to Rogersville, Tennessee and later to Kingsport, Tennessee. He worked for a short time for Eastman Chemical Company. For the rest of his life though, he was a self employed machinist. He died September 1, 1973 and is buried at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville, Tennessee.
