She was born June 22, 1855. She eloped with William Worth Buchanan Sr. to St. Joseph, Missouri and returned to Virginia when their first child Perry was two. They were probably married in 1872. A gentleman named Jim Gillespie wrote stating "I have visited several cemeteries and have come across some interesting findings. In a Buchanan Cemetery on the hill on the north side of Route 42 where it is intersected by Route 629 I found the tombstone of your ancestor Mary Jane Lamie who died in 1919. The cemetery has been heavily damaged by cattle and her stone had been knocked over. However, it remains in good shape, for now". She died December 22, 1919.
