He was born 1820 in Washington (now Smyth County) County, Virginia. He married August 12, 1844. Page 205B of the census of 1850 states that his occupation was a Cooper. John died in 1885. A gentleman named Jim Gillespie wrote stating "I came across a letter that his youngest son Samuel David had written me from Hannibal, New York in 1961. In this letter he states that he thought his father died in 1892 in Bristol, TN." I will try to verify this.
